Convoy Joins Habitat for Humanity & the Carter Work Project

Who’s your neighbour?

For us here at Convoy the answer to that question is an important one.

We are a company that works where we live. We have neighbours, and we believe we have a role to play in caring for those neighbours, especially when they don’t have a roof over their heads. That’s why partnering with Habitat for Humanity is such a good fit for us.

In late July a number of employees from our Edmonton and Winnipeg branches, including Alma Garnett, Convoy's President, rolled up their sleeves and dug into The Carter Work Project. In celebration of Canada’s 150th, U.S. President Jimmy Carter and former First Lady Rosalyn Carter partnered with Habitat for Humanity to build 150 homes across Canada in a week.

Working alongside volunteers from all walks of life was a fantastic experience for the Convoy crew. Amongst the volunteers were the soon to be residents of the homes being built. Hearing about the colossal impact the new homes would have upon their lives was significant. Donating materials is important, but building actual homes made the need more real for us. We really were helping put a roof over our neighbours heads so to speak.

The project ended with a few photo opportunities including meeting the Carters.

Habitat for Humanity’s vision is simple - to create “a world where everyone has a safe and decent place to live.” Since 1985 Habitat has improved the shelter conditions of over one million people. We’re looking forward to future opportunities to more closely partner with Habitat for Humanity together working towards putting more roofs over our neighbours heads.
