An Update on Jacob Graham
Few titles are as exclusive as Olympian. Jacob Graham is on a quest to join that select group, and Convoy's glad to play a small part in his dream of competing on sport's greatest stage. We believe it's important to be involved in the communities where we live and work. As a business we provide goods and services. As a member of the community, we participate in the causes that matter to our customers and our employees. We support a variety of charities, community events, athletes, and sports teams on local as well as national levels.
Jacob is one of those athletes, an outstanding skater with accomplishments in both short and long track speed skating, who juggles intense training and competition with a university work load and a part-time roofing job! Jacob's had a strong year where he's delivered some career-best finishes and fought back against setbacks. At the Canadian Single Distance Championships, he came in 6th in the 500m and 5th in the 1000m, only missing out on qualifying for the World Cup team by 0.25 seconds (and missing out on 2nd by only 0.29 seconds!)
He followed this up with double fifth place finishes at the Winter Trials event. He was pushing to exceed his personal bests when he fell during training and sustained a minor concussion. He had to miss the rest of the season, but he recovered in time to get in over a month of roofing back home in Dawson Creek. Then it was off to Calgary to write his final exams and finish his school year.
He's now back in his off-season training of weight-lifting, cycling, and other training before the proper skating season starts in September. He had this to say about Convoy's support:
"Words cannot express how much your support has helped me in the last 3 seasons. Last season I was able to pay for my training fees, flights, and accommodations to the first Canada Cup... that took place in Fort St. John, B.C, as well as covering some of the costs of rent and food. This has allowed me to put more focus and effort into speed skating and school."
I know I speak for all of Team Convoy when we say, "Good luck, Jacob!" Continuously striving for excellence over adversity and challenge is what we're all about. Best wishes for the coming season.
